Our pediatric cardiac surgery team traveled to Gaza in September. Our members were PICU nurses, cardiologists, perfusionists, intensivists, surgical techs and a surgeon, from San Antonio, California and Florida, all with a single purpose; to serve the children of Gaza.

After making our way to Gaza we spent the first day meeting the children and their families and preparing the intensive care unit.  We taught classes and organized supplies.   Over the next 5 days of surgery 9 children had their hearts repaired.

As is usual on mission trips, the team who came to serve received way more then it gave.   We came to the realization that the similarities we share with the families in Gaza outweigh the differences in our cultures.   It was an amazing, life changing trip for all of us.  We're already planning our trip next year.
