I chose a career in healthcare because people, problems, and procedures make going to "work" less of a daily chore and more of a daily joy. For me, there is no better feeling than being able to utilize my God-given talents to connect with others during their most intimate and vulnerable moments of life. From birth to death and everything in between, medicine has allowed me the wonderful privilege of meeting people's needs right then and there. This journey encourages me to never cease learning more, practicing often, and appreciating the unique and complex aspects of humanity on a daily basis. My love for medicine continues to deepen despite the early mornings, late evenings, on-call pages, or sheer physical exhaustion of being "present" for 12+ hour shifts 6-7 days a week. These are the days that build character, and it is this character that cultivates an inner strength to persevere through this season of my medical training. I am forever grateful to be on this journey, and it is a honor to assist in the healing of physical, emotional, and even spiritual needs for patients. That's #WhyIDo.
Shannon is currently finishing up rotations and lives in the beautiful (and drizzly!) state of Washington with her best friend and husband of 3 years, and her "fur babies" (a Morgan horse named Annie, and our Maltipoo puppy named Tucker). When she's not in her white coat seeing patients, she can be found mucking stalls at the stable, nurturing her backyard fruit & veggie gardens, attempting home decor DIY projects, or simply snuggling with her boys on the couch. You can follow along with her family fun on her Instagram account: @dynamic_DO.
